Neutral Yet Festive Patriotic Outfit Inspiration

Have you heard? The Olympics are this year! And lucky for us, we will have two consecutive years of Olympic games because the next Winter Olympics starts in February of 2022! As you probably already know, this isn’t typical. Normally there is a two-year gap between Olympic events, but because the Summer 2020 Olympics had to be postponed due to the Covid Pandemic, we get to enjoy Olympic events in consecutive years!

In any typical year, even one without the Olympics, I enjoy putting together patriotic outfits for holidays like Memorial Day and Independence Day. Given that we have two Olympic events coming up within one year of each other, it has been even more fun to pull these looks together. Not that you ever really need a reason to wear an outfit in support of your country, but this year we have even more excuses to wear patriotic outfits!

With all that said, I still tried to use versatile pieces for most of these outfits. None of them are “Uncle Sam up in-your-face” looks. Most of the items that I used and even some of the complete outfits can be worn on their own any day of the year and nobody would think anything of it. I don’t know about you, but for me, it does not make sense economically or otherwise to buy outfits or items to only wear them once. So I did try and use pieces here and can be worn again and again in other scenarios. If you are looking for inspiration that is a little more obviously patriotic, check out the blog post that I pulled together last year for the Fourth of July.

Blue Tie Dye Romper

This look will be great if you plan on spending time outside in the warm sunshine for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July. The romper is sleeveless, so you won’t have to worry about weird tan lines. It did come with clear plastic detachable bra straps, but I thought that it looked a little classier without them. The pop of white in the shoes and earrings adds a breezy touch to top off this patriotic outfit.

Red Sundress with Hair Scarf

I just realized as I was writing this that this entire look is from Amazon head-to-toe! Amazon has so many fun finds! I would say that this sundress runs in junior sizing, so you might consider sizing up in it. I am wearing a small, but probably could have gone with a medium for length. Add a cute headscarf that incorporates American colors and you have yourself a cute, casual, and patriotic outfit!

This entire look is pretty versatile. Paired together these pieces give patriotic vibes, but each one of them can be broken off and used in different outfits. Here are some more overtly patriotic finds from Amazon:

Jean Shorts with Fanny Pack and Flag Hat

I have to say, it took me way too long in life to realize my love for hats. I only started wearing them regularly a few years ago. I’m so glad I finally caught on though because a good hat can go a long way! This one is a neutral stark white with an American flag on it. Paired with blue jean shorts and a bright coral sweater, and you’ve got yourself a look that speaks patriotism!

White Sweater with Jean Shorts and a Hair Scarf

If there is one thing from this blog post that you consider buying, let it be this sweater! I’ve had it a few months now and I love it! It’s fairly lightweight, so it will continue to get used on cooler summer nights. With a pair of jean shorts and a hair accessory that pulls in the colors of the American flag, you have a simple and comfy patriotic outfit!

Even though most of the looks that I showed here were neutral and not over the top, there are a lot of cute and affordable Patriotic themed pieces all over the place! Here are some of my personal favorites that I’ve come across:

Well, I hope one of these outfits has put you in a patriotic mood! I just wanted to share some looks to show you that you can still dress festively without buying a new dress that looks like it was made from an old flag or a top with Uncle Sam’s face on it. Not that there is anything wrong with those types of pieces! It is just that those tend to be items you may or may not wear again. What a waste! We are all about versatility over here! Either way, I hope that you’ve enjoyed the looks that I’ve shared here!
